We're planting seeds for the future...
Here at Quintessence Sanctuary and Gardens, we’re helping to weave a vision for the future of humanity. A vision centered on health, wellness, heart, and connection to Earth.
We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live in alignment with their natural rhythms {rest, play, exploration, integration, purpose}. To eat nutrient-rich foods that have been cultivated without exposure to chemicals, pesticides, and glyphosates. To be a part of the ecosystem from which we came.
Through permaculture-based gardens, we’ll be growing herbs, produce, and eventually, some of the only locally grown market citrus in southern Wisconsin.
What is Permaculture?
Permaculture is the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive ecosystems which have the diversity, stability, and resilience of natural ecosystems. It is the harmonious integration of landscape and people — providing their food, energy, shelter, and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way.
Both permaculture and regenerative agriculture are rooted in the health and balance of entire ecosystems, thus offering a greater level of sustainability in the long run, a diversity of species, and arguably, a more enjoyable and life-enriching method for food growth.
What is Quintessence?
Quintessence is a nod to Jen’s deep and abiding affection for all things physics, energy, and magic-related. It’s also a hat tip to the movie, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, where it is used in reference to a photo that is supposed to embody the ‘quintessence of life.’ The movie goes on to define quintessence as the perfect embodiment of something – and to us, permaculture brings us one step closer to the perfect embodiment of life here on Earth as it should be. One big, beautiful, interconnected ecosystem, expressing in holistic balance.
(Feel free to look up the meaning of quintessence in the context of physics if you’d like to go down a fun, mind-stretching rabbit hole about the nature of the majority of the “space” in the cosmos.)
